DREDD – Movie Review

September 23, 2012 Leave a comment

Strictly based on the trailers, I had no interest in seeing Dredd.  I had no connection to the comics or the original Sylvester Stallone film, but nothing about the marketing made the movie look fun, original, or interesting.  However, to my surprise, there was strong word of mouth coming out of numerous screenings and festivals, which had my interest peaked.  Unfortunately, I found Dredd to be lifeless, dull, and the most overrated movie of the year so far. END OF WATCH – Movie Review

Based on the trailers, positive buzz, and two great lead actors, I was definitely looking forward to End of Watch.  Cop movies are tough to pull off, due to a number of clichés we’ve come to expect.  However, when done well, they can be some of the best movies out there.  And thankfully, due to great direction, fantastic performances, and well-fleshed out characters, this is one of the best cop dramas to come out in recent years. ROCK OF AGES – Movie Review

I’m not a big fan of musicals, but I went into Rock of Ages a bit optimistic.  Granted the 80s aren’t my favorite decade, I was still completely on board for a classic rock-based musical.  Unfortunately, while it’s not a complete disaster, it has a lot of problems. Read more…

THE HUNGER GAMES Takes Down the TITANS – Weekend Box Office Report (March 30 – April 1, 2012)

It was an expected holdover, but last weekend’s champ The Hunger Games came in at #1 again.  The Lionsgate action flick took in another estimated $61.1 million, for an estimated total of $251.0 million.  The film did drop 59.9% from last weekend’s $152.5 million opening, but it’s still holding incredibly well.  At this point, nearly everyone who had interest has seen the film, so for these next few weeks, the box office for The Hunger Games is likely relying on fans that are going back for multiple viewings (Click here for my review of The Hunger Games). WRATH OF THE TITANS – Movie Review

If I were to make a list of unnecessary movies coming out in 2012, Wrath of the Titans would be towards the top.  I, along with many, immensely hated the first film from 2010, Clash of the Titans.  And while this new installment is marginally better than the first one, it’s ultimately more of the same. THE RAID: REDEMPTION – Movie Review

March 24, 2012 Leave a comment

As of late, many fights in action films from Hollywood really lack strong choreography.  Every gun seems to have an unlimited supply of bullets, and the main character never seems to get hurt.  However, leave it to the new Indonesian action film, The Raid: Redemption, to deliver on the fights, as it has some of the best action scenes I’ve ever seen. THE HUNGER GAMES – Movie Review

The hype leading up to the release of The Hunger Games was one of the most massive and widely known in some time.  I haven’t fully read the books, however I knew that there was more to this film than the typical teen novel adaptation (looking at you, Twilight).  So, going in with this mindset, I ended up enjoying the film quite a bit, a lot more than I was expecting.
